| This session will explore techniques for automated retrieval of data from the web using FileMaker. Participants will be shown how to use a scripted procedure to control a web viewer and provide user feedback while retrieving and parsing source code from an online URL.
Using the example of a system which provides international currency support, the session will explore ways of using native FileMaker calculation expressions to reliably and consistently extract relevant data from the source and use it to populate fields within a FileMaker table. Methods for integrating historical retrievals with existing FileMaker data structures will also be shown.
During the session, some of the common problems and challenges which are encountered when implementing solutions which depend on web-scraping techniques will be identified and addressed. |
